Isomorphisms of groups related to flocks

A truly fruitful way to construct finite generalized quadrangles is through the detection of Kantor families in the general 5-dimensional Heisenberg group H2(q) over some finite field Fq . All these examples are so-called “flock quadrangles”. Payne (Geom. Dedic. 32:93–118, 1989) constructed from the Ganley flock quadrangles the new Roman quadrangles, which appeared not to arise from flocks, but...

Translation ovoids of flock generalized quadrangles

We give a characterization of translation ovoids of flock generalized quadrangles. Then we prove that, if q = 2e , each elation generalized quadrangle defined by a flock has a large class of translation ovoids which arise from semifields of dimension two over their left nucleus. Finally, we give some examples when q is odd. © 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. MSC (2000): Primary 51E12; Se...

Elation generalised quadrangles of order (s, p), where p is prime

We show that an elation generalised quadrangle which has p + 1 lines on each point, for some prime p, is classical or arises from a flock of a quadratic cone (i.e., is a flock quadrangle).

Determination of generalized quadrangles with distinct elation points

In this paper, we classify the finite generalized quadrangles of order (s, t), s, t > 1, which have a line L of elation points, with the additional property that there is a line M not meeting L for which {L , M} is regular. This is a first fundamental step towards the classification of those generalized quadrangles having a line of elation points.
